Q500 – 424 Pylon Event Calumet Flyers Field Hilbert, WI May 20, 2006 We enjoyed a beautiful sunny day with a bit of gusty breeze right down the runway. A potential field of 11 were on hand, but after Rick Bohlmann’s tail decided to part company with the rest of the fuse during a trim flight, the field was reduced to 10. Luckily for Rick he avoided the label of “first wreck of the season” when Bernie Vanderleest confessed he cracked a tail off his #1 plane while loading it up in the car an hour earlier! Some highlights from the day included no midairs(!) which was incredible considering the close racing that was going on. One of the best heats included 13 year old Malcolm Reynolds edging out his dad George at the finish line. Malcolm was up until 2 a.m. the night before piecing together an old Scat Cat to make the race that day, and flew a nice tight course to come home 5th overall….he will be a force to contend with in the future. Lowlights included Bernie’s destruction of his #2 bird after completing his first heat, Carl Dvorak stuffing one in the plowed field during heat 10, and Mick Warning losing a rear bearing in his #1 plane, then losing the tail on his #2 plane after the final heat. When it was all over, a day of perfection was had by Darwin Larson. The final results were:
In lieu of fancy trophies, a raffle ticket was awarded for each point earned during the race, and a drawing was held for a brand new TT PRO 40. The lucky winner was Ernie Nikodem! We hope to see him back with his new engine to put some hurt on Darwin! From the Calumet Flyers Scribe | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
